India is SA's sixth-largest Asian trading partner, with total trade between the two countries reaching $4.4bn in 2008. Indian companies will once again be showcasing new products and services on the Indian Pavilion at the Southern African International Trade Exhibition (Saitex) taking place at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand from 25 to 27 July, in a bid to boost trade and create new partnerships.
Indian consul general, Vikram Doraiswami, says: "Last year, our
exhibitors were very happy with the results, as most of them returned
with firm orders. I am confident that they will enjoy an even better
result this year. "
Last year, two-way trade between India and Africa represented about 8%
of India's total world trade, worth approximately $30bn. The Associated
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India reports that trade between
India and Africa is likely to grow by 22% in the next two years,
reaching $55bn in 2012, of which almost 30% will be agri-trade. It
predicts that this figure will rise to $70bn by 2015.
"Leading Indian trade organisations will be supporting companies
exhibiting on the Indian Pavilion at Saitex this year," says John
Thomson, MD of Exhibition Management Services, the organiser of the
trade expo. "This gives a strong indication of the commitment to
Indian-African trade shown by the country. These organisations are
attending Saitex to seek out local agents, importers and distributors
for their products on the continent."
Some examples of products that will be exhibited include electronic and
audiovisual equipment, industrial products, textiles, jute, leather
products, wool and woollen products, handicraft items, jewellery,
cosmetic and ayurvedic products, borehole components, submersible pumps
and electric motors.
"The most important thing that visitors should remember is that Saitex
presents business owners with a unique opportunity to meet hundreds of
new suppliers and access new products from around the world, all in one
spot," says Thomson.
Visitors can access the "Product Preview" links on the EMS website at
www.exhibitionsafrica.com for the full range of products available at
Saitex. Thomson explains that this marketing tool is unique to Saitex
and Africa's Big Seven Food and Beverage Expo, as it allows access to a
full listing of countries, exhibitors and products for the two
co-located shows.
